Dust Racing 2D is a free downloadable, tile-based, customizable 2D vehicle game developed by Jussi Lind, who also made the popular Dust Tactics. The software is available for Linux/Unix and Windows. The game has been inspired by real race car tracks from around the world such as Lime Rock, Laguna Seca, and Laguna Seca. The game is customizable and can be adjusted to the player's liking, though some features require paying a fee.
The basic version of the software has a single player mode where one player acts as a track editor by modifying the layout by moving walls, making corners, and other modifications to the race track. Each race begins with a preset pre-race briefing where you are informed of your vehicle position in comparison to other racers. The action then proceeds with four distinct races, two each with their own objectives and style of play. As you win a race you move up to the next level and the competition becomes more difficult. The top three finishing drivers in each level to earn the highest prize. There are online leader boards for each level, but they are not as prominently displayed as those for the online races.
The software is freely available to download. It can be played without any downloading of extra software, but there are some files that may need to be downloaded before the game can run. These are the software's installer files, and their size is small relative to the download.
